How to Have a Comedy Night Fundraiser

| October 3, 2013

-If you are wondering how to have a comedy night fundraiser, you may have recently attended one of these events. Many fundraising organizers have become interested in this tool, as the idea has become more popular. A number of well-known comedians, including Dave Reilly, have helped to increase the popularity of these events by offering their services for a reasonable rate, nationwide.

Fundraising organizers do not always agree on the best first step. Most of them will agree that choosing and contacting a comedian is the logical way to begin. There are other steps that will depend on who will provide the entertainment. Once you have chosen the entertainer, the next steps are similar to those of other charitable events.

You will need a venue.

The right venue depends on the number of people you expect to attend. If you expect the event to be relatively small, you might be able to use the local high school auditorium. Of course, you will need a larger venue if your financial goal is a large one. There may be an auditorium, arena or theater in your area that is willing to donate the use of their venue for the one-night event.

You will need to choose a date.

You can never pick a date that suits everyone but some dates are better than others. A Friday night is usually a good choice, unless it precedes a major holiday. There are too many other things to do around the holidays. Look at the local social and events calendar to make sure that the date you pick does not conflict with other popular events. Fall dates are generally better than summer because fewer people are on vacation and there is simply less to do.

You will need tickets.

Once you have the venue, you will need to design and print tickets to sell. The ticket should clearly state the time, the comedian’s name, the location of the event and the charity that will benefit from the ticket price.

You will need volunteers.

Your volunteers will help with the promotions and with selling tickets. They can talk to people at work, at church and online using their social networks. Trying to pull this off all alone is a mistake. You’ll be exhausted and your event may not go off as planned.

Those are the basics of how to have a comedy night fundraiser. If all goes well, you will make a lot of money for your charity and have fun at the same time.
